Elected parties are ignoring blasphemy: JI
Staff Report
KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Naib Ameer Prof. Ghafoor Ahmed questioned why elected political and religious parties have declined to respond to anti-blasphemy rallies.
“They are silent on this issue,” he said while addressing a huge afternoon anti-blasphemy rally Sunday on MA Jinnah Road. “No political party has secured a heavy mandate from the people but there are certain political parties that have presumed be to the largest ones in the country and they have started taking steps against the country’s sovereignty.” In scathing criticism of Pakistan Peoples Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Prof Ghafoor said he had blatantly said that the core issue of Indian-held Kashmir would be left unresolved for the coming generation so that they might resolve the issue by themselves.
He said Zardari the PPP co-chairman was still in a dilemma about announcing the names of potential candidates for the chief ministry as well as the premiership of the country. “In these circumstances, how can he determine the outlines of a foreign policy for Pakistan?” The JI leader added that some American officials had already said that US-led forces would not hesitate in attacking dens and hideouts of extremists within the limits of Pakistan but the president had kept silent on these threats.
JI leaders Asadullah Bhutto, Muhammad Hussein Mahenti, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rahman, Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith leaders Maulana Yousuf Kasuri and Maulana Afzal Sardar, Islami Tehreek leaders Allama Nazir Abbas Taqvi, columnist Ishtiaque Baig and Zameer Akhtar Mansoori, former legislators Laique Khan, Nasrullah Shajji, Hameedullah Khan, Younus Barai, Jamiat Ulema Pakistan leader Ghulam Ghaus Sabri and others also addressed the rally.
